As part of GM Training I was sent to Greensboro, NC, today to learn about and drive the new Chevy Volt. AMAZING! This car kicks butt!!! At one point we drove the Volt and Prius back-to-back for comparison. The Prius was nowhere close and quite cheaply made in comparison. Of course, they are quite different vehicles, but still aimed at the same market and not a huge price difference. I highly recommend checking it out! If I can get a pic uploaded later I certainly will...

They start around $42k and go up to $48k, but you'll typically see them advertised with the tax credit of $7,500 reflected on the price so it looks cheaper. There is also an additional $1,500 credit for installing a charging station at your house.

Thats just too much money for mass production. If i were shopping for something like that I couldnt see spending more than 30k for it out the door.

I heard most dealers sell the Volt as a used car because they claim the $7500 for themselves

I can't say I've heard of that happening and I'd be quite surprised if they could get away with it... I do know if you LEASE the Volt that money goes to the Leasing company and you then get that credit toward your payment, which is why it has a GREAT lease price. So, that's not you getting it on your taxes, but you still benefit from it.
Anyway, our demo unit will be here in the next few weeks and I certainly look forward to driving one again!

I got an offer to drive one this weekend, but I'm busy working. I really wanted to check it out. I've seen some pretty good reviews, and these being from car guys.
