After 5 Years... There is now a new Steel Standing Album! It is entitled Wreckage. It is ONLY available as a download at this point, but will be in a disc form before long. It hit iTunes on Monday and will slowly start to show up on all the other stuff like Amazon, Rhapsody, eMusic... It has 12 Songs, 2 that are acoustic, 2 that are new renditions of songs from the first album, and also includes the song dragSTAR that is the theme song to the upcoming NHRA TV show we wrote for. I hope those of you who are Steel Standing fans enjoy it!

Decision time

Well, the time has come to make a life changing decision. I've been talking about going back to school and saving for years, but now it's really here. I jumped through all the hoops, got accepted into the program, and hit my savings goal. Luckily I planned for the worst, that I would get absolutely no help whatsoever from my company or anyone else, and that I would pay for it in cash, because right now that's exactly how it's playing out.

Classes start on Aug 22nd, which gives me just a couple days over two weeks left. I'm going to talk to HR on Monday to iron out all the final details but unless something crazy happens I'll be quitting my job to go back to school full time.

It's been a fantastic job actually. The pay exceeds anything I ever expect to make again, the company philosophy and people I work with are great, and it's allowed me to get into some really technical areas that usually aren't open for my position. That said, there's still a lot of limitation in where you can take this kind of job. I've only been here for 4.5 years, but I'm at the top of my field and quickly getting stagnant. I think it's the perfect time to get out. It's also shift work, which although it has its pros, can really wear on you. If I had kids yet, it would be very intrusive to that part of my life as well.

So, basically I'm sitting here wanting to throw up thinking about leaving such a great job and absolute financial security, but there will be no better time to do it. I'm 27, married with dual incomes, no kids, all the savings ready, refreshed in the classes I need from last semester, and my reputation at the company couldn't be any better.

Fukk...

As part of GM Training I was sent to Greensboro, NC, today to learn about and drive the new Chevy Volt. AMAZING! This car kicks butt!!! At one point we drove the Volt and Prius back-to-back for comparison. The Prius was nowhere close and quite cheaply made in comparison. Of course, they are quite different vehicles, but still aimed at the same market and not a huge price difference. I highly recommend checking it out! If I can get a pic uploaded later I certainly will...

New Monitor

So, I built the computer I have something like 1.5yrs ago (I'm sure it's all still in the technology forum ) and last year I added a blueray burner to it. The downside of having added the blueray is I didn't upgrade my monitor and the blueray won't work without having a HD monitor connected via HDMI. I finally decided it was time to make the plunge and found a SWEET deal on Newegg for this one:
P-IPS ProArt Series Professional Monitor
As excited as I am to get it (should be at the house tomorrow) I'm a little nervous to see how some of the colors look on some other photos I've worked on recently... LOL! I'll be sure to give feedback on it and can't wait to get it hooked up!

I've never been on an actual cruise, although I've been around saltwater and deep sea fishing my whole life. I'm taking a GoPro Hero, although I didn't get a flat lens ordered for underwater filming. I didn't schedule any scuba diving because noone else in the party will be, but I may jump on a last minute dive or two if we finish up what we were doing.

Monitor

I need a new monitor that should have hdmi. Last year I got a bluray burner for it and it really don't do much because of the resolution w/ the monitor. I know that sounds a bit odd, but I get an error every time I open something pertaining to the bluray that refers to the monitor... Anyway, I don't care to go waaaaay overboard and the largest I could go and fit my desk is probably in the mid 20's (I'm sure a 24" would fit well). I'm pretty sure I saw a Samsung that looked great and was 21" under $200. Any thoughts or suggestions on it?
